Morehead City Fire Station #2
Morehead City, NC
As part of a continueing program to up grade
services to their constituients, the Morehead
City Commissioners purchased the former
Carteret News Times newspaper facility with
the goal of reusing the structure as the new
central fire station. To that end, C. R. Francis
/ Architecture was commissioned to design
the new facility. The design features offices
for the department staff near the public
entry, with training facilities centered in the
structure, and with dormatory spaces
adjacent the apparatus bays that were created
from the former press room. Using the
earlier station #1 as an exterior finish guide,
the front of the structure is finished in split
faced colored concrete blockwork [on 3 walls
and on the tower that announces the
entrance] with the remainder being metal
panels painted to match the the field color of
the blockwork. The building was dedicated
April 13 2013.
