Restoration & Expansion: Lawrence Davis House
New Bern, NC
Local preservationists acquired the Lawrence Davis House to rescue it from years of alterations and return it to use as a nineteenth- century-style frame cottage. The owners removed fragments of a concrete-block store, and asked us to design an addition that would be compatible with the original house and provide space for two bedrooms and living areas. The owners carried out the construction themselves, and restored the period character to this element of the New Bern Historic District.  As with several other projects undertaken by these owners, this structure was restored so as to improve the New Bern historic district while being a commercial venture. Construction completed:  2008. Contractor:  Newsom Williams / Ben Parish [owners]. New Bern Area:   815 sf Existing—renovated          616 sf New
